Dear Governor Justice,
Please find attached a letter from various economic and social justice organizations asking that you make additional funding and resources available to address COVID-related and other health and economic disparities in African American and poor communities in West Virginia. The signatories to the letter write in support of the request from the Charleston Branch of the NAACP and leaders of the African American faith committee that you set aside a portion of the CARES Act funding the state received to establish an Economic Justice and Equity Fund to address the impacts of the virus and at the same time promote health and economic equity in the state’s minority and low-income communities, with census tracts with a poverty rate of 20% and higher being given priority for allocations of the funds set aside.
Thank you for your consideration and attention to this urgent matter.
Sincerely,
Julie Archer
